Oh, my children make me laugh...

My five year old son runs through the house letting the world know he has to poop. Once he's sure everyone and their mother has heard his announcement, he sits on the toilet and starts his deed. I hear all kinds of grunting/pushing sounds coming from the bathroom. Then his two year old sister opens the bathroom door to see what he's doing. He tells her "It's okay, you can come in, it doesnt smell that bad in here..." She walks in, tears off her diaper and sits on her potty chair. Then she starts imitating her big brother, making the same grunting/pushing sounds she heard him making. He listens to her for a minute, then goes... "Look, I don't mind if you sit in here and poop with me but you gotta stop making those sounds, you're freaking me out."

The things my children say. Priceless.

Wordless Wednesday

Pictures from the second batch of pumpkin spice cupcakes I made last week...

When I turned my back to put this in the oven....

These two little stinker's hopped onto the counter to 'stir' the rest of the batter!

Mhm I see them licking their little lips...

"Uh oh, Mommy caught us!"

Yumm the finished product!

Time to stuff our faces!!!

My Weekend

Okay, so this is a little late but we have been pretty busy around here. We had a good weekend though...

Auntie came over Friday night and made Halloween Gingerbread Houses with Gav. This is something they have made a tradition and Gavin looks forward to it every year.

Kenna just covered herself in frosting

Then Saturday, Gav had a birthday party to go to.... at a roller-skating rink! Gavin had never been roller skating before, and he was not very into it at first. But after we got him a walker he did great and had a blast!

He has decided that he wants his next birthday party to be at the roller-skating rink.
Gavin and the birthday boy!
Sunday we had a play date at the park, went grocery shopping, and watched the Cowboys game :)

Somehow between all the madness this weekend, we also had three showings on the house. THREE! Activity is really picking up and that makes me extremely happy :) :)

How was your weekend?

What am I gonna do with this girl?

After a hell-ish morning with the kids on Tuesday, I was thrilled when I looked at the clock and saw it was time for Gavin to head to school, and Kenna to lay down for her ONE nap of the day. {I'm a little bitter about the whole ONE nap a day thing.} I lay her in her crib, tuck her into her blanky and tell her night night. Then I walk out the door, quietly closing it behind me. For the next 10 minutes, I hear her screaming. This has become our usual nap routine. I think she is trying to get out of her one nap a day, but I'm just not going to let that happen yet. I mean, she's only 15 months old!!! So I usually let her cry it out and if after 20 minutes, she's still screaming, I go in and tuck her in again. We do this until she is finally peacefully sleeping in her crib.

Well she had other plans on Tuesday. After 10 minutes of crying, she goes silent. I am beginning to think she is drifting to sleep... nope. Not. Even. Close. I hear a loud CRASH, and I go running into her room to find her on the floor, crawling to her bedroom door, crying so hard that she is just completely silent, trying to catch her breath. That's when I realized... she just jumped out of her crib! I swoop her up off the floor, making sure that she still has both her arms and legs in tact, then put her to my shoulder and attempt to calm her down. She didn't get hurt at all, I think it just shocked/scared her. And me too.

I'm not exactly sure how she managed to jump out of her crib. Her bumpers were still in there and I'm thinking she used those as leverage and climbed over the side, then fell to the floor. But that's just a wild guess. Needless to say, I took the bumpers out of her crib that day and she has not jumped out since then. But I still get super nervous every time I put her in her crib because I'm so afraid she's going to fall out again! I'm not ready for her to have a toddler bed! She's not even ready for a toddler bed! Could you imagine how difficult it would be to get her to sleep in one of those??? Something that she could easily climb out of. Ahh gets me all flustered just thinking about it.

That's not all... yesterday while I was in the shower... Kenna took her diaper off and pooped on the floor. Also while I was in the shower.... Gavin stepped in it during a mad dash to the toilet to pee. When I got out of the shower... while cleaning Gavin's foot and the poop on the floor {still in my bath towel, I might add} I stepped in another turd she left on the other side of the bathroom.

It was a fabulous morning.

Wordless Wednesday

Well... today it's more like 'Few Words Wednesday.'

Gav & I made chocolate rice krispy treats!

He is the greatest mixer ;)

Kenna somehow gets up onto the counter in 2 seconds.
Every time I turn around.

Gav doesn't really like his sister helping him with his baking.
Bet you couldn't tell though, right?

My sweet boy and his delicious creation!

Stupid car

Seriously? I'm in Texas... the temp's lately have been in the 100's... annnddd the AC in my car went out a few days ago. GREAAAT! After suffering through the heat since Monday, I finally took it to the shop yesterday morning. & after having the car all day long, they called at about 6pm last night and said they'll need to keep it over night because they still haven't figured out the problem. Fabulous.

So this morning I planned on quietly waking up around 7am to take my MIL to work so I could use her car today. Yes, quietly... meaning I didn't want to wake either of the kids or Hubbs because I knew they would all be cranky if woken up that early. But to my surprise, Kenna woke up at 6am!!!! And never went back to sleep. I ended up taking her with me on the 30 minute drive taking MIL to work (1 hr total driving) and for sure thought Kenna would fall asleep in the car... nope. After several unsuccessful attempts to get her down for a nap when we got home, I finally just gave up. This child is crank-y! She is cutting teeth, has a runny nose, and is sleep deprived but refuses to lay down.

I finally got her asleep (by rocking her, which I haven't done in months). I have so much stuff to get done, but am too exhausted from fighting her to sleep to do any of it. & I have to pick Gav up from school in an hour so will have to wake Kenna up then.

Can you believe that the high for today is 85... seriously? I could have just driven with no AC today and taken the car in tomorrow. Blahh.

It has been one of those days. & it's only 1:30.

What a nice day :)

Gav had a great second day of school :) He came home so happy today and said he had more fun today than he did yesterday. That made me happy! He did a scavenger hunt, sang songs, had story time, and bought his lunch at school (even though I packed him a lunch this morning) all by himself. I am so proud of him and happy that he is enjoying this new part of his life.

With Gav at school for 3 hours, and Kenna napping most of the time he is away I find myself getting a lot done. Today I cleaned the house, and completely made dinner, then had time to sit down on the couch and flip through the channels. It's nice having quiet time :) Anyway, since dinner was already made, all I had to do was stick it in the oven, and voila! We ate early tonight and then went for a walk around the neighborhood, and played at the park for a little bit.

When I downloaded the pictures, I guess I unplugged the camera before all the pictures were on the computer, and I only got like half of them :( Sucks. They're all deleted off the camera.. I'm not sure how it all happened but anyway here are a few pics from our walk...

Getting situated before we left

Gav thought she was falling, so he put his arm around her

Kenna is cutting two more teeth so she looked like this the whole time...

My sweet boy

My crazy girl

Oh! And yesterday I grabbed my pink nail polish and painted Kenna's toe nails... they're kind of messy because I had to do it fast! But from far away they look fine :)

Typical Monday Morning

Well, maybe not a typical Monday morning but... pretty close.

I just fed Kenna lunch. I take her out of high chair and let her run around while I'm cleaning the kitchen. Gavin's sitting at the bar eating some pizza flavored goldfish, and Kenna starts begging for one (yes, like a dog). Kris reaches down and gives her one. Two seconds later, she's choking. I turn around and Kris is like "She's okay....." I go.. "NO she's NOT okay!! Pick her up!!" As soon as he picks her up to start patting her back... all of her lunch comes flying up from her stomach, out of her mouth, and all over Kris and the floor.

The next words out of Kris' mouth... "Oh my God. She just threw up all over me. TAKE HER."

I grab her from Kris and head upstairs to clean her off and I hear "I did it too." Then I hear Kris go "You've got to be kidding me!!!!" Gavin has a weak stomach & couldn't take the sight of Kenna's throw up, so he ran to the other side of the house but it still wasn't far enough away & he ended up throwing up too.

This has happened before. It is totally disgusting cleaning up both kids vomit in one day. But I found it kind of comical today because Kris was holding her when it happened. & in her whole (almost) 14 months of life, she has not once peed or pooped on Kris, so this was amusing for me. Plus, all I had to do was run her upstairs and throw her in the bath tub. I left Kris down here to clean up both piles of throw up. I mean, it was kind of his fault for not patting her back sooner to keep her from coughing so hard she threw up.

Then from upstairs I hear him saying "I can't believe she choked on a measly little goldfish. The kid eats popcorn with two teeth and she chokes on a goldfish?!"

Hahaha. That's all I have to say.

Bath Time

Gavin doesn't really like taking baths with Kenna. Because well, "She slobbers on my toys!!!" is what he tells me every day. But last night after the burritos and queso we had for dinner, Kenna had cheese from the hair on her head all the way down to her toes (I still haven't figured out how she manages to do this).

So it was bath time.

I put water in the tub, clean the kids, throw some toys and bubbles in and they're happy. I start cleaning off the bathroom counter, and I hear Gavin saying "Gross, something stinks." I look over and Kenna's face is beat red and there are two brown 'logs' floating in the tub. Gavin immediately starts screaming... "Ahhhh she pooped!!! Get me out of here!! Get my toys!!!!" I get the kids out, get the toys out, fish out the 'logs' and completely bleach the tub. Then go to start them another bath... Gavin says to me "No, Mommy. I am not taking another bath with her. Ever again!! She is gross."

I had to remind him that he has done his fair share of pooping in the bathtub when he was little. & hopefully he'll change his mind before tonight's bath time so I wont have to be giving them separate baths every night.

Wordless Wednesday

Here are some pictures I snapped of the kiddos at the park yesterday...

Can you believe this is the only picture I got of the two of them together? They don't like to cooperate with Mommy's photo shoots!

My weekend

The house has been on the market for exactly one week and we've had one showing. ONE! I'm bummed. The one showing we had was last Wednesday. I was sure we would have some this weekend, because that's when everyone goes out looking at houses but no. Not ONE showing ALL weekend. Where are all the buyers!!!

Well, because I thought we would be having a few showings yesterday, we decided to get out of the house. I put the pot roast in the crock pot, dropped Kenna off at my Mom's and we headed out to look at some houses ourselves. Can you tell that this whole 'selling/buying a new house' is consuming my life?!? It totally is. We spent all day yesterday looking at houses. We got a lot of ideas on what we want in a new home and pretty much know the area we want to move to so it was a productive day. Now if we could just get some traffic in this house.

Also, this weekend... Kenna has started throwing complete tantrums. If she doesn't get what she wants she has a fit. For example, the other day she said 'daaaa' which is clearly 'drink' so I get her cup and fill it with juice. She takes one sip then throws the cup to the floor and screams as loud as she can, stomping her pretty little feet on the floor. Obviously that was not the juice she wanted. Can you say brat? Because that's what my once sweet little loving child has turned into.

A trip to the ER

Okay. So I still haven't been updating much... It's just been SO incredibly busy around here!

But this morning I got a lovely message from a friend of mine saying she recently discovered my blog and loves reading it, which totally made my day. & now I feel the need to post!

Let me start by saying... Gavin has been pooping in the toilet!!! I took some wonderful advice from a friend of mine and started making Gavin get in the shower and clean himself when he pooped in his underwear. Needless to say, he did not like that at all. Remember, this incident? Anyway, after that he stopped pooping in his underwear, and started pooping in the toilet.

Which brings me to yesterday... Gav, Kenna, and I took a trip to Toys R Us to get Gavin the robot he was promised, when he started pooping in the toilet. Every time we go to that store, we spend HOURS there. Gavin can never decide on one toy so we walk around the store a billion times before he decides which one he wants.

This is how my day started yesterday.

After we finally had the robot he wanted in our cart, we went to the girls section to try to find something for Kenna.

{Let me just say that when I go to the grocery store, Kenna sits in the big part of the shopping cart and I pile my groceries on top of her. This way keeps her in the cart, and quiet while I try to get my shopping done.}

So this is what I did at Toys R Us. She was sitting in the big section of the shopping cart and Gav and I were discussing a new robot he had just discovered. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Kenna leaning over the side of the cart, and before I know it her head is plummeting to the floor. So with my {cat-like} reflexes, I reach down and grab her by the ankle. By that time though, her head had already hit the tile floor. I pull her up into my arms, and try to comfort her and calm her down. She gets quiet and lays her head down on my shoulder, so I grab Gavin and his toys and rush to the checkout. I get out to the car and Kenna is completely passed out on my shoulder. I put her in her car seat and try to wake her up but she is in and out of a fog and I can't get her fully awake. At this point, I am completely loosing it. I get Gavin in the car, put my flashers on and high tail it to the hospital. As soon as we got to the ER she woke up and was looking around like she didn't know what was going on. After talking to her for a few minutes, she looks over at Kris and goes "dada" and started acting like her normal self again. So we spent a long 4 hours in the ER, the DR looked at her and did a cat scan, he said everything looked fine and to just keep an eye on her and make sure I can wake her up when she falls asleep. Which, I did. All. Night. Long. Because I was so afraid she wasn't going to wake up again.

But everything is fine now. She acted completely normal all day today and her bruise looks a lot better then it did yesterday. It was pretty scary though.

Kris has informed me that if I ever need another career path, I should drive an ambulance. I guess I kind of freaked him out with my driving on the way to the ER. & I probably should have let Kris drive anyway because I just panic in times like this.

It's been a lovely morning

I got up and started making banana bread this morning. It took me at least 45 minutes to get everything together in one bowl (hey, with two kids it is nearly impossible to get anything done in a timely manner). All I needed to do was sprinkle in some cinnamon & pop it in the oven. I went to the pantry, spotted the cinnamon, reached for it and got back to the bowl of batter. Opened the little container, and started pouring it in. It didn't smell right so I looked down. That's when I realized I was sprinkling cumin into my banana bread. Great.

I wasn't about to let that whole bowl of batter go to waste so I fished out as much cumin as I could and loaded it up with real cinnamon. It just came out of the oven and smells pretty good so we'll see how it tastes in a little bit.

During the midst of completely ruining making my banana bread, Kenna was wreaking chaos in my house. She opened the dog food bin and proceeded to mix the dog food pebbles into her cereal. She also poured out the entire contents of the dogs water bowl onto the kitchen floor. Then slipped and fell in it at least 5 times. And her favorite thing to do EVER, is take alllll of the kids plastic plates and bowls out of the cabinet and play the drums with them on the hard wood floor. At least their plastic, right? I swear, this child looks for things to get into. She is such a little disaster waiting to happen.

Hopefully this is no indication of how the rest of my day will be :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update

The banana bread turned out awesome. It is delicious. I guess I got all the cumin out because I couldn't taste any & the cinnamon was yummmmy. I will be posting this recipe later today!

Double Whammy!!!

I finally weaned Kenna completely.
I'm not really sure how it happened but she is no longer interested in the boob. When she hit the one year mark, she was only nursing twice a day... before she went to sleep. So I started giving her whole milk in a bottle at nap time and bed time. & I guess that's what worked! Woo Hoo :) :) :)

& bought a DSLR!

I have been wanting one for SO long. & finally purchased one online, now just have to wait for it to arrive. I have never owned a fancy schmancy camera before and am a little intimidated by it. I just hope I can learn how to use it!
For those of you who own a DSLR, what kind of lens do you use? Any advice for me?
For now I will just leave you with some oh so sweet pictures I took of Kenna and I with my other camera :)

Wean Kenna completely.

Happy Birthday Babygirl :)

Today my daughter turns one!!! I cannot believe it has already been a whole year since she was born. I feel like it was just yesterday that I left the hospital with her.

This is my little bug at only 6 weeks old.
& this was around 8 weeks old.

This is one of the first pictures I have of her smiling. Say it with me now "aww!"
& Now she's not a baby anymore.
But she'll always be my baby.
Happy Birthday, Kenna bug!!!
We don't have any big plans for today because 1) Tonight is Gavin's last tball game of the season and 2) We have a party planned for Sunday. But I will have a little cake for Kenna tonight and she will be opening presents from Mommy & Daddy. I will take pictures :)

Am I a horrible mommy

for wanting to be done with breastfeeding?

I have been reading a few other blogs/stories about mommies that breast fed until their child didn't want to anymore. & they were so sad when that time came.

Me on the other hand, I cant wait for that time to come! I have been trying to wean Kenna for a while now. About a month ago, she was still nursing 3-4 times a day AND waking up in the middle of the night to nurse AT LEAST once. That's a lot of nursing, huh? & now I've got her down to nursing only at night, before she goes to bed. She still wakes up in the middle of the night but I just give her the binky and she goes back to sleep.

She will be one on June 9th and has one tooth, & is ready to pop another one any day now.

I told myself I was only going to nurse her for 6 months, then it turned into 9 months, then it turned into one year, and now that day is right around the corner and I cant wean her!! Don't get me wrong, I love the time I have when I'm nursing her and it's just she and I bonding. Buuuut SHE IS GETTING TEETH! & she is almost a year old!! & I'm just over the whole 'nursing' thing now. Is that horrible?

Honestly though, I think it is just a comfort thing for Kenna at this point. It doesn't seem like she misses her 3-4X a day feedings. But when bed time rolls around she definitely knows what time it is and wants to nurse. I feel like I should just let her wean herself when she's ready. Then again, I don't want to be nursing her when she is 18 months old!

Any advice?

Teeeeeth

My little man had surgery yesterday. He had a total dental rehabilitation. Two baby root canals, one tooth removed, & four caps. Although this was his fourth, and easiest surgery, it was harder on him than the last one. He had a different anesthesiologist than the last three times and this guy did not give Gavin pain medicine before he woke up. Which made for a very grumpy Gavin. He usually wakes up pretty calm and quiet and sleeps off the anesthesia. But this time he woke up right away and was throwing himself all over the place. The nurse tried to give him some Tylenol to relax him a little so he could sleep it off but he refused to take any. He was very angry while we were at the hospital and kept saying he was hungry and wanted to go home. As soon as we got out to the car (after being at the hospital almost all day) he was a happy camper again. Gavin always bounces back pretty quickly. He never complained about his mouth hurting or anything and never ended up taking any pain medicine or Tylenol. My little man is a trooper. His only request yesterday was a hamburger and french fries, which he got on the way home. He is the only person I know that can eat a hamburger and french fries 3 hours after having all that dental work done.

The tooth that was pulled out, we got to take home. It was the first time Gavin got to put a tooth under his pillow & he was thrilled when he woke up and saw that the tooth fairy left him three whole dollars :)

& Kenna finally has a tooth!! She popped her first tooth a few days ago and it is finally visible. She has her bottom right tooth and that's all. & She will be one in two weeks. I don't know how she gums all the food she eats!

Gm drove in Wednesday to be here for Gavin's surgery and she went home this morning. She has all the pictures from surgery on her camera so as soon as I get them I will post some. Gavin is doing good today, back to his normal self again & looking forward to having a break from surgeries for a while!

Also!! Saw this on Jacqui's blog (The Ins & Outs of A Stay-At-Home Mom & Wife) and thought I would try it out. I am looking forward to any new followers & will be checking out some blogs and becoming a new follower myself :) Welcome to all the new readers! & thanks Jacqui!

Busy little bees

I don't know why, but for some reason I just love this picture of the kids. It's just a snap shot I took of them sharing Gavin's little cars chair but it makes me smile :)
Anyway, on to the post! After doing absolutely nothing yesterday. Well, I take that back, Kris and I watched the movie Valentine's Day in between the mounds of laundry that were being done. But other than that, we did absolutely nothing. So by the time 5 o'clock rolled around, I needed to get out of the house. There is a festival going on here this weekend called The Taste Of Addison & we decided to try it out. There was yummy food, good music, and family fun.

Gavin found a few bounce houses...
(wish I had a better picture!)

Then a fountain to play in!
Which he LOVED.
It was a good time. After stuffing our faces, we came home and passed out. We had to be up bright and early this morning for a Tball game at 9am, and had a busy day planned.

I tried to come home and take a short nap but that wasn't what the kiddos had in mind. So to the back yard we went! Here is a picture of Kenna being loud and making funny faces...

There's my sweet girl :)
Today is a day Gavin had been waiting weeks for. We had a play date planned. We took the kids to Chuck E Cheese for a few hours this afternoon, then went to see the new Shrek movie.

Here is a picture of Gavin cheesin' pretty big, and showing off the new Shrek cup he got!
& This is Gavin and his buddy Xavier.

The kids had a lot of fun today. We got home about 8 o'clock and they both passed out pretty quick. I love fun days out with the family :)
